It's Midsummer Time

It's midsummer eve today here in Sweden, and I thought I should write a short post on this fascinating holiday. I have been in Sweden long enough to attend multiple midsummers, and it never ceases to amaze me. If you don't know what midsummer is, watch the following video, it will give an excellent idea about the holiday and what people do to celebrate it.

The Origins

While the holiday (as many other holidays) has deep roots in religion and beliefs, midsummer morphed into more of a social activity over time and is seen as more of an opportunity to celebrate the start of summer, summer vacations and to enjoy the very short Swedish summer.

The Dance

One particular midsummer activities that I find hilarious and a bit confusing is the dance, the frog dance. I don't think my words will suffice to describe it, so here is a video of the dance.

Glad midsommar :)
